New Four Court Sports Hall (16 Nov 2009)

We would like to let you know that the school has been allocated capital funds through the County Council in order to improve its premises.

The proposal involves the building of a new sports hall facility that we hope will benefit both the primary and secondary schools and the wider community.

The Governors of Roundwood Park School would therefore like to invite you to attend a display of plans for a proposal to construct a new four court sports hall on the school site. Representatives of the school and Hertfordshire County Council will be in attendance at the school to explain the proposals and to answer questions from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm on Wednesday 25th November 2009. Please come to Reception.

It is expected that a planning application will be submitted to the County Council in January 2010. Any such application will be considered under the County Development Unit’s normal procedures. The site notice and notification letters will let people know how they can formally make their views known.
In the meantime, we hope you will be able to attend on 25th November 2009 and discuss the proposals with us.

Last 1000 days until 2012 Olympics! (17 Nov 2009)

Pupils at RPS have been completing tasks in form time to think about the last 1000 days until the 2012 London Olympic games, encourage excitement and remind them about the 7 Values of the Games. Pupils watched the Get Set video and then completed tasks from the web site.

Forms were commissioned to produce a 50p for 2012 with the winner being chosen by Dan Klinger, our PDM. An Olympic quiz was available and some students wrote letters to sporting heroes.

Older students thought about the importance of 1000 days and reflected on the last 1000 days and how they have developed both personally and at school. Students set targets that they want to achieve in the next 1000. These will be kept and given back to the students at the opening of the games. Our young ambassadors have also been lucky enough to visit the Olympic site.

One year 10 form has arranged to run a form marathon with each student running a mile around school until 26 have been completed.

Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week takes place from 28 June to 2 July 2010 and RPS will be building on the 1000 count down to encourage pupils to get involved in lots of different sporting opportunities. For more information, games and quizzes on the London 2012 Get Set program visit http://getset.london2012.com/en/home

Support us in the Waitrose "Community Matters" scheme (16 Nov 2009)

As the Waitrose shoppers amongst you will know, Waitrose have a scheme whereby shoppers can vote for their favourite good cause by putting a token in the appropriate slot in store when they shop.

At the moment, all three secondary schools in Harpenden are competing for our votes. Our cause is to buy trampolining equipment for our successful squad. Please support us by putting your tokens in Roundwood's slot to raise funds for your school.

Accessing your school work (02 Oct 2009)

There is now an alternative to using Easylink to access your work from home called FileSurfer. This allows all students to access their documents from home, without being dependent on your computer's operating system or browser.

Please note that you must login with your normal school username and password (for students usernames begin with a number indicating year of entry).

To access FileSurfer, download these instructions.

If you run into any problems, please email helpdesk@roundwoodpark.herts.sch.uk.
